This Thursday join us in supporting Injury and Violence Prevention day as part of
American Public Health Association's annual celebration of
National Public Health Week. This is particularly important in Alaska where women experience sexual violence at high rates. Recent results from the
Alaska Victimization Survey (AVS) from the
Aleutian/Pribilof Islands show high rates of sexual violence, with 1 in 4 women experiencing sexual violence in their lifetime. Statewide AVS results from
2015 show out of every 100 adult women, 50 experienced intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or both.
