Dr. Chamard is special area editor for criminal justice encyclopedia

Dr. Sharon Chamard, Justice Center faculty, will be a Special Area Editor for the “Place and Time” section of the “Crime and Place” volume of the Encyclopedia of Criminology and Criminal Justice. The seven-volume encyclopedia, edited by David Weisburd and Gerben Bruinsma, will be published by Springer Verlag in 2012.

As described by the editors, the encyclopedia seeks to "define the parameters of the discipline of criminology and criminal justice. . . . .[I]t is very much in the spirit of the eighteenth century French Enlightenment Encyclopédie. . . [whose contributors] included the leading thinkers and scholars of the time, such as Montesquieu, Rosseau, and Voltaire. . . . Scholars acknowledge that the Encyclopédie was a key source of intellectual ferment that shaped the course of history. We intend that our encyclopedia too will stimulate intellectual discourse about crime and criminal justice in the twenty-first century."
